Home Trends: Decorating for Fall

Categories: Design Trends, Shaddock Homes, Uncategorized | Posted: October 11, 2018 | Comments Off on Home Trends: Decorating for Fall

The weather is finally cooling down and we’re gearing up for the cooler months ahead! One of the greatest things about fall is that it’s the kick-off of the holiday season and we’re all about celebrating with festive décor. We’ve complied a list of some of our favorite design trends and tips to update your home for this season.

Homemade Paper Banners
One trend we’re really excited about is paper banners. You can create paper banners of leaves, bats or anything your heart desires and also make it a fun family activity. You can use foil paper, patterned paper or even layer your banners in so many ways. This craft costs very little to make and is easy to swap out as often as you like. We personally love a classic fall toned leaf banner.

Unconventional Pumpkins
We know that pumpkins have always been a Halloween staple, but we’re seeing more and more of untraditional colors of pumpkins for décor. While we love the classic orange pumpkins, we think mixing it up and decorating your home with muted toned pumpkins gives a beautiful farmhouse feel while still being festive. We are loving this sage and cream collection from SF Girl. The beauty of this trend is that they’ll carry over décor-wise for after Halloween!

Wall Hangings
One of the bigger trends over the last few years has been yarn wall hangings. There have been simple ones, macramé and even intense woven ones. But one fun idea is to create one you can change out all year long based on the season. We love this one featured on the abeautifulmess blog. It’s a simple touch that updates your room from summer to fall.

Gold Accents
When in doubt about your fall décor you can always play it safe by acquiring gold accent pieces! Gold is something you can have in your home year around, but it’s particularly appropriate around the fall through the new year. It adds warmth to your home and you can utilize gold accents in so many ways! We love this combination of gold, candles and earthy elements.

Velvet
Cozy accents are definitely a must at this time of year. Stock up on blankets you can display, new throw pillows and candles but also consider adding velvet into your cozy mix. Velvet has been gaining popularity again and it’s made its way into home décor. Pick up some velvet pillows in a bold fall color. Or if you’re ready for some major décor changes maybe pick out a velvet furniture piece! The options are endless.

Wreath Update
Give your guests a seasonal style greeting with a wreath update! Wreaths are timeless pieces themselves with a wide variety of ways to style them. You can go for seasonal colors, holiday specific or even get a little wacky. It’s all up to you and how you want to impress your guests. We personally love this wreath one of our homebuyers has displayed for this season.

It’s after Labor Day and summer is coming to a close despite what the weather thinks. Here at Shaddock Homes we’re sad to say goodbye to summer fun, but we’re excited for all the fall events coming up. Of course, we’re the MOST excited for one of the biggest events of the year… The Texas State Fair.

Every year the state fair comes to bring joy, junk food and endless entertainment and the lineup this year won’t disappoint. And the fair is a short drive from all of our Shaddock Homes communities! So, there’s no reason to miss out! Dates for this year’s fair run from September 28th – October 21st.
The theme for this year’s 132nd state fair is “Celebrating Texas Innovation.” The theme was chosen to highlight all of the marvelous creations that were created in Texas but cherished by the world. Some of the inspiration of the theme comes from America’s first self-contained modern shopping center, iconic corn chips and even corny dogs! The theme follows last year’s theme of “Celebrating Texans” and we know we’ll be there to celebrate.

One way to celebrate is checking out the music at the fair. The entertainment lineup for this year is so diverse that there’s surely something for everyone! Concerts take place each Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the duration of the fair and are free to attend once you’re inside the gates. Go here for more info or see the list below.

While the entertainment is a huge perk to the Texas State Fair, we’re partial to trying all the food! It’s of course true to theme and is full of innovative food left and right. Some of the winners of the 2018 Big Tex Choice Award are the Cotton Candy Taco, Deep Fried Shepard’s pie, Texas Twang-Kie and Deep-Fried Skillet Potato Melt in a Boat. Then there’s always the Thursday food specials where you can get a deal on classics like corny dogs and funnel cakes! To find out more about the food at this year’s fair go here.

Food and concerts may be big staples to your Texas State Fair experience, the fun doesn’t end there. Spend some of your visit in The Barns. Shaddock Styling: Kitchen Counters

Categories: Design Trends, Helpful Tips & Information, Shaddock Homes, Uncategorized | Posted: August 16, 2018 | Comments Off on Shaddock Styling: Kitchen Counters

When you first move into your new Shaddock home you’ll probably want to jump right into making your home perfect. One of the easiest rooms to decorate and make your own is the kitchen. You can dive immediately into styling your kitchen counters with little to no effort while making a huge impact on your space.

The options for decorating your kitchen are pretty much endless and that might be daunting, but we’re here to help! We have rounded up 6 of our favorite ways to decorate this space to help you achieve your design goals.

1. Edible Décor

One of the easiest and most practical ways to decorate this space is to add in a little bit of edible décor. You can have a big bowl with cute/ready to grab after school snacks for the kids. But you can also place a variety of delicious fresh fruit in a unique tiered display. We’re partial to picking out different seasonal and local fruits!

2. Green is great!

Nothing brightens up any space like some greenery! You can use your countertops, cabinets or open shelves to display a variety of different luscious plants. Succulents work well in this space, but you can also try out fresh herbs. And if you need something low-maintenance rubber plants are also a win!

3. Functional Décor

Decorative canisters, bowls, etc are great ideas for filling up this space, but you can also utilize these pieces. We love to use ours to store flour, sugar and of course coffee! Hiding everyday items in plain sight is a win-win.

4. Display Your Favorites

One of the best pairings for countertops is a favorite cookbook and beautiful kitchenware. Have your favorite utensils that are too pretty to use or a stylish cutting board that needs its time to shine? Set up a space to make these pieces a showcase of your kitchen.

5. Drink Display

Are you an avid coffee drinker? Or maybe you love to collect wine. Either way a fun way to decorate your counters is to dedicate a space to displaying some of your favorite drinks. You can set up a ready-to-go coffee tray or even display some of your favorite wines to unwind with.

6. Company Awaits

If you love having guests and want to display your home in a guest ready way, try having place settings at your island! Anytime you have an impromptu friend pop on by you’re already ready to entertain with a casual meal and gossip.
