It’s after Labor Day and summer is coming to a close despite what the weather thinks. Here at Shaddock Homes we’re sad to say goodbye to summer fun, but we’re excited for all the fall events coming up. Of course, we’re the MOST excited for one of the biggest events of the year… The Texas State Fair.

Every year the state fair comes to bring joy, junk food and endless entertainment and the lineup this year won’t disappoint. And the fair is a short drive from all of our Shaddock Homes communities! So, there’s no reason to miss out! Dates for this year’s fair run from September 28th – October 21st.
The theme for this year’s 132nd state fair is “Celebrating Texas Innovation.” The theme was chosen to highlight all of the marvelous creations that were created in Texas but cherished by the world. Some of the inspiration of the theme comes from America’s first self-contained modern shopping center, iconic corn chips and even corny dogs! The theme follows last year’s theme of “Celebrating Texans” and we know we’ll be there to celebrate.

One way to celebrate is checking out the music at the fair. The entertainment lineup for this year is so diverse that there’s surely something for everyone! Concerts take place each Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the duration of the fair and are free to attend once you’re inside the gates. Go here for more info or see the list below.

  • 28 at 8:30 p.m.: Kraig Parker
  • 29 at 2 p.m.: Sevyn Streeter

While the entertainment is a huge perk to the Texas State Fair, we’re partial to trying all the food! It’s of course true to theme and is full of innovative food left and right. Some of the winners of the 2018 Big Tex Choice Award are the Cotton Candy Taco, Deep Fried Shepard’s pie, Texas Twang-Kie and Deep-Fried Skillet Potato Melt in a Boat. Then there’s always the Thursday food specials where you can get a deal on classics like corny dogs and funnel cakes! To find out more about the food at this year’s fair go here.

Food and concerts may be big staples to your Texas State Fair experience, the fun doesn’t end there. Spend some of your visit in The Barns. Each year more than 5,200 students participate in youth events and leadership contests associated with livestock and agriculture heritage. And there’s plenty of cute animals to look at while you learn more about all they do. Check here for the daily schedule of events.

Farm animals not your thing? Try shopping at one of the 18 shopping locations around the park showcasing everything from hot tubs to jewelry. Check out the Creative Arts Building and see an assortment of Lone Star arts, crafts, culinary creations and performing art. Go to The State Fair Midway to ride more than 70 rides, including the iconic Texas Star® Ferris Wheel. The opportunities are really endless at the state fair. To buy tickets go here.

Shaddock Styling: Kitchen Counters

Categories: Design Trends, Helpful Tips & Information, Shaddock Homes, Uncategorized | Posted: August 16, 2018 | Comments Off on Shaddock Styling: Kitchen Counters

When you first move into your new Shaddock home you’ll probably want to jump right into making your home perfect. One of the easiest rooms to decorate and make your own is the kitchen. You can dive immediately into styling your kitchen counters with little to no effort while making a huge impact on your space.

The options for decorating your kitchen are pretty much endless and that might be daunting, but we’re here to help! We have rounded up 6 of our favorite ways to decorate this space to help you achieve your design goals.

1. Edible Décor

One of the easiest and most practical ways to decorate this space is to add in a little bit of edible décor. You can have a big bowl with cute/ready to grab after school snacks for the kids. But you can also place a variety of delicious fresh fruit in a unique tiered display. We’re partial to picking out different seasonal and local fruits!

2. Green is great!

Nothing brightens up any space like some greenery! You can use your countertops, cabinets or open shelves to display a variety of different luscious plants. Succulents work well in this space, but you can also try out fresh herbs. And if you need something low-maintenance rubber plants are also a win!

3. Functional Décor

Decorative canisters, bowls, etc are great ideas for filling up this space, but you can also utilize these pieces. We love to use ours to store flour, sugar and of course coffee! Hiding everyday items in plain sight is a win-win.

4. Display Your Favorites

One of the best pairings for countertops is a favorite cookbook and beautiful kitchenware. Have your favorite utensils that are too pretty to use or a stylish cutting board that needs its time to shine? Set up a space to make these pieces a showcase of your kitchen.

5. Drink Display

Are you an avid coffee drinker? Or maybe you love to collect wine. Either way a fun way to decorate your counters is to dedicate a space to displaying some of your favorite drinks. You can set up a ready-to-go coffee tray or even display some of your favorite wines to unwind with.

6. Company Awaits

If you love having guests and want to display your home in a guest ready way, try having place settings at your island! Anytime you have an impromptu friend pop on by you’re already ready to entertain with a casual meal and gossip.

Home Trends: The New Neutral

Categories: Design Trends, Helpful Tips & Information, Shaddock Homes | Posted: July 19, 2018 | Comments Off on Home Trends: The New Neutral

When decorating your home it’s important to make decisions you’ll love for a long time, so it’s hard to pick what trends to implement with your design choices. One of the biggest trends in interior design as of late is something that’s bold, but also classic… navy as a neutral.

Immediately when you think of navy you might imagine nautical designs, but don’t limit yourself there. Navy can be used in rustic, traditional and even modern home interior design. Due to the richness of the color it works similar to black as a neutral, but it has a calming effect and the tone you choose can really change up your space.

Navy works well with natural tones like beige or even wood. It’s a beautiful contrast to colors like pale pink, yellow and pale purples. There’s so many ways you can utilize this trend in the home. You can use navy as a paint color on your walls or to make your kitchen island POP. You can buy furniture in a tone of navy to make a focal piece in the room. You can buy home décor accessories in navy to play off other pieces in your room.

If you aren’t fully loving the darkness of navy, you could also try a little brighter blue for a similar effect! We’ve started using this trend in every way we can think of and are loving the results. One of our favorite rooms to utilize the trend in is the kitchen, but it really does work in every room in all different styles. Check out some of our beautiful model home designs below for more navy and blue inspiration.
