Here at Shaddock Homes we try our best to build in the best areas around Dallas and we’re excited for some commercial progress near several of our communities. (Click here to see them all) The newest addition to Plano is The District in The Shops at Willow Bend which is going to feature five fabulous new restaurants. These new restaurants host a variety of types of food to appeal to every crowd!

The first restaurant to join The District is Knife, the second location of celebrity chef John Tesar. When dining at Knife you’ll find a variety of menu options such as Texas-raised steaks along with a variety of seafood offerings and even vegetarian meals. In addition to the restaurant, Knife offers a butcher shop for guests to take home any cut of meat featured in the restaurant along with Knife Burgers to-go.

Across from Knife you’ll find Mexican Bar Co. Cocina with Mexican offerings cooked on wood and coal-burning grills, a concept from Chef Patricio Sandoval. You’ll find tacos on handmade corn tortillas along with fresh ceviche, guacamoles and salsas. There’s also a full bar with a variety of Mexican cocktails focusing mostly on tequila and mezcal. Mexican Bar Co. Cocina also has a walk-up window with tacos and smaller menu items to-go.

Next to the new main entrance of the shopping center you’ll locate Terra Mediterranean, owned by brothers Jalal Chanaa and Adam Shanaa. Terra Mediterranean features a lunch buffet packed with healthy dishes served hot from the pan or grill. The diner menu has specialty items like lamp chops and oven-roasted trout. A huge perk to this new location is that Terra Mediterranean will have a second-floor patio overlooking the plaza.

Unlike the former restaurants, you’ll find more casual fair in Whistle Britches, the second location of Chef Omar Flores. Guests can dine on comfort food like fried chicken sandwiches, fresh buttermilk biscuits and southern-style sides.

And to top off the dining experiences at The District you can find an outpost of a popular Dallas coffee shop and restaurant, Ascension Annex. This location will offer specialty coffee drinks, wine and beer, and light food options. While the permanent shop is being built, you can currently grab some Ascension Annex coffee at a pop-up shop inside the shopping center.

Along with these restaurants, you’ll be able to look forward to various entertainment coming to The District as well. The Crayola Experience is already open, but Cinepolis movie theater is in the process of being built. There will also be Equinox, an upscale fitness club, and a seven-story office building. Look out for events in this area too! For the month of October, The District is hosting free concerts every Friday and Saturday from 7-9pm. At Shaddock Homes we love to get involved with our community and give back. This weekend some of our employees and their loved ones volunteered with Austin Street Center to feed the homeless a good meal. It took a lot of planning, cooking, and time but we were able to provide a delicious spaghetti and meatballs meal for everyone at the shelter. Are you looking to relocate to a place perfect for your family, but also looking for excitement? You might want to take a look at McKinney, TX. This little city is right on the edge of the DFW area and has endless amounts of charm.

When out exploring McKinney you can’t skip out on the historic downtown. You’ll find everything you could want here from antiques to an Irish pub. You’ll be able to go shopping or find some wholesome activities for the entire family. There’s also a large variety of places to dine from a cheeky diner the kids will love to a nice winery for date night.

One of the most exciting things about McKinney is that it is all about its community. There’s constantly well planned events to attend. For 50 years, Plano-based Shaddock Homes has specialized in building custom, luxury homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The key to the company’s longevity and growth, CEO Peter Shaddock said, has been building the most beautiful houses. “Quite frankly, we’re better than our competition,” he said. “We have better looking stuff.”

Since 2015, Shaddock Homes has grown its headcount by eight, to 54 employees. Far more impressive is the company’s revenue growth: $89 million in 2015, $126 million in 2016, and a whopping $277 million last year. The company has a strong reputation in the North Texas homebuilding industry, said Ted Wilson, principal of Dallas-based Residential Strategies, which analyzes the Dallas-Fort Worth residential market. “Shaddock Homes is a great story,” Wilson said. “They build a really high-quality house and they’re very active throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.” “The work ethic in that family is unbelievable,” he added. “They know how to make a deal. They have kind of a folksiness about them, but they’re very smart, very shrewd.”

Shaddock Homes faces growing competition in the market, Peter Shaddock said. “What’s happened is the Dallas Metroplex has been so successful that a lot of competition has moved into the area,” he said. “Lots of competition creates shortages in labor supply and higher labor prices because everybody needs (workers). Lot prices rise. Material shortages also cause everything to go up. Mortgage rates are going up, so it squeezes your buyer into buying less house.” To combat some of the problems, Shaddock is building slightly smaller homes to keep the price down, he said. Tradition and homeowner satisfaction in the higher-priced home market, and the focus on building north of Interstate 635, differentiates Shaddock Homes, he said. The company offers a variety of innovative home designs and constantly tries to provide exterior and interior craftsmanship that distinguish it from other Dallas homebuilders, he added.

“Our houses are supposed to appeal to not the average guy, but the average abnormal guy,” Shaddock said. “Somebody who has a good income, like doctors. A lot of people build south of LBJ. We build north of LBJ.” Attention to detail, creativity and the ability to understand homeowners’ needs allows the company to create functional, open floor plans, Shaddock said. The homes accommodate today’s most requested features, including clean-lined design, energy efficient materials and private baths for every bedroom in the house. The family home-building company has the characteristics of a smaller builder with the financial strength of a national homebuilding company, Shaddock said. Shaddock Homes builds in some of the most desired locations and highly regarded school districts, Shaddock said. The company’s communities are located in Carrollton, Celina, Dallas, Frisco, Lewisville, McKinney, Parker, Plano, St. Paul and Wylie.

Whitestone Estates Now Open

We have been working hard here at Shaddock Homes to design new innovative floor plans and continue to grow in our quality of craftsmanship. One of our biggest accomplishments lately has been the grand opening of our Whitestone Estates model in Parker, TX. This gorgeous home combines our traditional style with more modern styles as well. Homes in this community will rest on 1-2 acre home sites and range from 3,500 to 5,200 sq. ft.

We also had a great grand opening event for Whitestone Estates in April, partnered with HotOn Homes and Grand Homes. The evening event featured food from The Library in Grapevine, cocktails, live music at our model and some great prize giveaways.
