Here at Shaddock Homes we try our best to build in the best areas around Dallas and we’re excited for some commercial progress near several of our communities. (Click here to see them all) The newest addition to Plano is The District in The Shops at Willow Bend which is going to feature five fabulous new restaurants. These new restaurants host a variety of types of food to appeal to every crowd!

The first restaurant to join The District is Knife, the second location of celebrity chef John Tesar. When dining at Knife you’ll find a variety of menu options such as Texas-raised steaks along with a variety of seafood offerings and even vegetarian meals. In addition to the restaurant, Knife offers a butcher shop for guests to take home any cut of meat featured in the restaurant along with Knife Burgers to-go.

Across from Knife you’ll find Mexican Bar Co. Cocina with Mexican offerings cooked on wood and coal-burning grills, a concept from Chef Patricio Sandoval. You’ll find tacos on handmade corn tortillas along with fresh ceviche, guacamoles and salsas. There’s also a full bar with a variety of Mexican cocktails focusing mostly on tequila and mezcal. Mexican Bar Co. Cocina also has a walk-up window with tacos and smaller menu items to-go.

Next to the new main entrance of the shopping center you’ll locate Terra Mediterranean, owned by brothers Jalal Chanaa and Adam Shanaa. Terra Mediterranean features a lunch buffet packed with healthy dishes served hot from the pan or grill. The diner menu has specialty items like lamp chops and oven-roasted trout. A huge perk to this new location is that Terra Mediterranean will have a second-floor patio overlooking the plaza.

Unlike the former restaurants, you’ll find more casual fair in Whistle Britches, the second location of Chef Omar Flores. Guests can dine on comfort food like fried chicken sandwiches, fresh buttermilk biscuits and southern-style sides.

And to top off the dining experiences at The District you can find an outpost of a popular Dallas coffee shop and restaurant, Ascension Annex. This location will offer specialty coffee drinks, wine and beer, and light food options. While the permanent shop is being built, you can currently grab some Ascension Annex coffee at a pop-up shop inside the shopping center.

Along with these restaurants, you’ll be able to look forward to various entertainment coming to The District as well. The Crayola Experience is already open, but Cinepolis movie theater is in the process of being built. There will also be Equinox, an upscale fitness club, and a seven-story office building. Look out for events in this area too! For the month of October, The District is hosting free concerts every Friday and Saturday from 7-9pm. You’ll be able to enjoy a wide variety of local bands and some great cover bands. Jump on over to Visit Plano here for the line-up and all the details.

Favorite Fall Events Just Around the Corner!

Categories: Communities, Helpful Tips & Information, Shaddock Homes, Uncategorized | Posted: September 6, 2018 | Comments Off on Favorite Fall Events Just Around the Corner!

It’s after Labor Day and summer is coming to a close despite what the weather thinks. Here at Shaddock Homes we’re sad to say goodbye to summer fun, but we’re excited for all the fall events coming up. Of course, we’re the MOST excited for one of the biggest events of the year… The Texas State Fair.

Every year the state fair comes to bring joy, junk food and endless entertainment and the lineup this year won’t disappoint. And the fair is a short drive from all of our Shaddock Homes communities! So, there’s no reason to miss out! Dates for this year’s fair run from September 28th – October 21st.
The theme for this year’s 132nd state fair is “Celebrating Texas Innovation.” The theme was chosen to highlight all of the marvelous creations that were created in Texas but cherished by the world. Some of the inspiration of the theme comes from America’s first self-contained modern shopping center, iconic corn chips and even corny dogs! The theme follows last year’s theme of “Celebrating Texans” and we know we’ll be there to celebrate.

One way to celebrate is checking out the music at the fair. The entertainment lineup for this year is so diverse that there’s surely something for everyone! Concerts take place each Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the duration of the fair and are free to attend once you’re inside the gates. Go here for more info or see the list below.

While the entertainment is a huge perk to the Texas State Fair, we’re partial to trying all the food! It’s of course true to theme and is full of innovative food left and right. Some of the winners of the 2018 Big Tex Choice Award are the Cotton Candy Taco, Deep Fried Shepard’s pie, Texas Twang-Kie and Deep-Fried Skillet Potato Melt in a Boat. Then there’s always the Thursday food specials where you can get a deal on classics like corny dogs and funnel cakes! To find out more about the food at this year’s fair go here.

Food and concerts may be big staples to your Texas State Fair experience, the fun doesn’t end there. Spend some of your visit in The Barns. Each year more than 5,200 students participate in youth events and leadership contests associated with livestock and agriculture heritage. And there’s plenty of cute animals to look at while you learn more about all they do. Check here for the daily schedule of events.

Farm animals not your thing? Try shopping at one of the 18 shopping locations around the park showcasing everything from hot tubs to jewelry. Check out the Creative Arts Building and see an assortment of Lone Star arts, crafts, culinary creations and performing art. Go to The State Fair Midway to ride more than 70 rides, including the iconic Texas Star® Ferris Wheel. The opportunities are really endless at the state fair. To buy tickets go here.
